The Story Behind Chuck Storm

EDIT – 2009:

Yes, it’s a commercial now. The good folks at TrueCredit and their ad agency Cramer Krasselt bought the rights to our video and now it’s literally all over the world. The response has been incredible, such good reviews and an amazing campaign for TrueCredit. Did you know we did 9 other videos for them too? Check the others out…http://www.fuddytv.com/categories/19/TrueCredit
Trust us when we say that this came completely out of left field! The amount of goodwill and well-wishes and even negative comments has been astounding. I think we’ve all gone through a little bit of “Shock & Awe” about the thing, but needless to say we are humbled and honored that it could at least make people laugh….if only for 8 seconds.
In March, we shot a couple videos that day, both of which have long since hit the trash can, but we thought we had some time to do another. Dave (David Haysom) had come up with the idea of a news reporter who was continually getting hurt every time reported the news, thus Chuck Storm was born. We weren’t entirely sure how to work it, how it would pan out, so we just did a couple takes and I used my “reporter” voice and hit the pole.
The original idea for Chuck Storm was to be a continuing character that, as I mentioned before, would simply get hurt every time he reported a story. As the videos progressed his injuries would get more and more bizarre. As “KleenexDust” said in her comment on our YouTube version, “Chuck Storm….is the guy every mother wants for their daughter”. That’s what he was to us, just a fun-loving, really nice guy who loved to report the news, but had the worst luck of anyone imaginable. He was naive, hard-working and the most honest man in journalism. Even when he had all his ducks in a row, there was a part of you that just felt sorry for him.
After that we uploaded it to YouTube and continued on making our other videos. People around us liked Chuck Storm, people who saw it on YouTube liked it. So clearly the idea, from the get-go, was to have it recurring.
We put a lot of thought into what his follow-up would be and came up with a couple and decided to shoot the “Stung by Bees” which we in fact shot BEFORE the Chuck Storm craze started.
Mom liked it.
Needless to say this has been a wild ride for us and we’re excited, humbled and thankful.
What we have to decide now is should Chuck Storm effectively die? While we wanted him to be a recurring character, I’m not so sure any more….Perhaps he’s hit his peak.
Cheers,

Just saw Chuck for the first time…don’t kill the guy! Very funny stuff and with some keen writing and focus on pop culture I think this character could be awesome! Don’t kill him, ride him until he dies!!

C’mon guys, a guy like chuck can go on and on. Do you know how many news reporters are out there reporting, and have no idea what is going on? Everyone loves/hates a Cliff Clavin. Mouth open, no idea whats happening. Long live Chuck!!! Although, make his death great. Maybe in a hurricane.

Ha! I like Chuck Storm… Someone says that it maybe to the extent that I need to check on assurance of my “being heterosexual status.” Okay, okay, my girlfriend said it! She says I watch the “Beehive” video too much and asks if I am just watching that vid to see Chuck in his underwear… good grief! I mean it is just funny, right. After all, he is rolling around too fast to see “anything” – Wait, why I would care about seeing “anything.” Oh, yeah, I never did say that I was ACTUALLY looking to see if I could see Chuck’s thing… Of course I meant to say to see “anything… and, subtract Chuck’s name from that sentence, too.“ And so, I really believe that I am okay – Hey, no “gay” worries, here! Later… (Going back to check out that “Beehive” video just one more time – Just to make sure about “things,” don’t you know?) I am just about almost completely positive that I am not even slightly vaguely confused about my sexual identity.

I like Chuck! But as an on going character-no. His adventures would get old and tired too quickly.

Chuck Storm is a riot…
I would love to see Chuck deal with things other news people encounter during filming such as… a streaker, a heckler, freakin out when he messes up a line, interviewing a terrorist just as he blows himself up etc…

He’s gorgeous and hilarious with a beautiful voice. Promote him to befuddle middle management. Look how long Inspector Clouseau lasted! And he wasn’t even gorgeous.

Both the character, Chuck Storm, and the acting are excellent. Please don’t kill him yet; the original clip becoming increasinly embedded in American culture: handsome, clean cut, All American, boy-next-door (not exactly the brightest… OMG! The next Aston Kutcher – except the acting is so obviously superior.
Don’t kill him yet; give him a couple of real nasty sprains (we’ve all suffered those); just rough him up s’more, don’t kill him, yet.
Who knows, it could develope into a cult; sort of is already. There could be Wakes – like the old M.A.S.H Parties – when he meets his sad and untimly demise; as we all will, thus his universal appeal.
Chuck Storm is us…

Chuck Storm reminds me of such protagonists as Norman Paperman in Herman Wouk’s “Don’t Stop the Carnival,” and Gully Foyle in Alfred Bester’s “The Stars My Destination” — two books I couldn’t finish. I couldn’t stand watching these guys, whom I liked, go through life repeatedly getting the metaphorical crap kicked out of them.
As such, there will come a day when I will no longer be able to watch Chuck Storm’s bad luck. However, that day is not today. More Chuck!

Chuck Storm should be retired if you guys decide it isn’t fun to do the character anymore. He may never end up on CNN again, but if you guys enjoy the character, then go for it.
