I found this Green Lantern trailer on YouTube and was absolutely amazed. Why? Because it is completely fake. It was put together using a series of movie clips from Star Trek, Lord of the Rings and Serenity to name a few. The guy then adds his own computer effects and puts in a little movie trailer music (I think it’s from Batman) and PRESTO! You get a kick ass Hollywood movie trailer.

Keep in mind, it’s not 200 million bucks worth of effects here. But, for some guy workin’ on his home computer in his basement…it’s pretty frickn’ inspiring. I wish we could do effects like this guy. Enjoy.

So because I am acting in The Three Musketeers, we thought it would be great to take advantage and utilize the stage and the set for a fuddy video. Ryan came up with the concept and Dave wrote an ambitious scene.

Let me tell you shooting seven pages of script in 90 minutes is very difficult. In fact, I would use Gong Show to describe the experience. Costumes were missing, actors were arriving at different times and all the while the stage manager is yelling “Erik you have ten minutes!”

Needless to say it was rushed and we were forced to do things in a single take. I was honestly left feeling we can’t salvage this scene, it was shot rushed and that will show in the final cut. I was so upset about it in fact that when I had to perform literally ten minutes after wrapping I gave the audience a half-ass Porthos. Something I regret.

Time will tell if Dave can work some edit magic, but I warn you FuddyTV folks, this maybe a scene you may not get to see. I deeply apologize.

Okay! Here we go! My first blog. How exciting!

Well, FuddyTV members I would like to share some cool news with you. I was cast as a Wingman in a Coors Light Beer commercial not too long ago and it has just recently started to appear on TV. I play a man who has strapped himself to a set of home made feathered wings and is trying to take flight in order to break into the Coors light mystery mansion. Maybe you have already seen it? It was a lot of hard work shooting this commercial because of all the running that was involved. Not to mention each wing was nine feet long and weighed like 50lbs. “Flap harder!” the director would yell from behind the camera.

At the end of the day I felt like my entire body was mashed potatoes, and I’m not talking about the flaky mashed potatoes that you mix together from out of a box, I am talking about the real mashed potatoes with the melted pool of butter in the center. But after all was said and done, I went out and enjoyed a couple of frosty Coors Light beers as a reward…and a plate of mashed potatoes.

I tip my hat to you,
David.

Over the last few months Dave and I have been working with our friends Director Mike Moller and Producer Eric Giesbrecht on a short film called “Another Place”. I’m excited to share with you the trailer for the film that Eric put up just moments ago…

“…a short film shot in Calgary with Ryan Northcott, David Haysom, Jessica Dollard, Jim Osenton, Olivia Moller, and Erika Livingstone. Another Place tells the story of a street magician caught between the work-a-day world of his sister and his successful novelist brother.”

Can’t wait to see the final product on so many levels. One for the actual movie itself and the other because we’ve got a hefty set of bloopers.

Cheers,
Ryan for Fuddy

I’ve found over the last little while that not that many people have seen an amazing movie written by master writer David Mamet and starring Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon and Alan Arkin. The movie is called “Glengarry Glen Ross” and it is perhaps one of the most studied films by actors and directors alike.

So when Dave announced that the next FuddyTV shoot would be a scene from the movie, I was excited. The movie itself is, in a word, wordy. But if you appreciate great acting and a well plotted story you’ll enjoy it. Here’s a sample scene from the movie of which I found on the YouTubes. Watch this and you’ll get an idea of why we chose to do one of the scenes.

The scene which Dave and I did is Ed Harris and Alan Arkin talking about taking some leads…the illegal way. And we have to thank Jeff & Bernie at the Barking Frog in Lake Chaparral for letting us shoot there! This is a shameless plug, but I’ve known Jeff & Bernie for a long while and not only are they great people, but they make the Barking Frog such an amazing place to go for a drink!

Friday is the day!
Cheers,

Thanks to the fantastic service that Blip.tv offers, we finally feel as though the video player is up to par for what we want to do. The videos load fast, they look great, and there’s some features listed underneath the player that enable you to search through episodes, embed on your website, share with a friend and read a synopsis for each vid. It’s a perfect player!

Dave has been furiously writing two new Chuck Storm episodes. Which we will probably shoot early next week. Oh Chuck Storm….such a good news reporter. Basically that’s what Dave does, as Erik so perfectly put in “The Great Debate Short Movie Film” credits, use his “crazy ass imagination” to write smart, funny and off-the-wall sketches. Sometimes we shoot something or I get a script and I look to the sky and think where the hell does he come up with these things? Thank god he’s that way, or else it would be a whole lot of Randy Morton if I was writing….

Speaking of Randy Morton….here’s a little sample of what Randy’s been doing in the studio….

Finally after a long day of shooting and editing “The Great Debate Short Movie Film” is uploaded and ready to watch!

This was the most hectic, gorilla shoot that we have done, we were literally running from one location to another and racking our brains as to the whereabouts of the beer in the story.

“Dammit! We forgot to pick up the beer in the last shot!” But we made it work with a little bit of creative backtracking. We had so much fun shooting this movie that we lost complete track of continuity, but managed to make it work.

I gotta run…here comes the ice cream truck…

About a week ago we shot episode 2 of “The Roommate” at a local gym/recreation center. What’s it about? Well, Racquetball of course. The way we end each episode is how we start the next, so naturally when John slaps Mike across the face, yet still wonders if they are playing racquetball, indeed they are. The episode is brilliantly written by Dave and I feel immensely sorry for Eric that he has to make sense of everything we shot. It’s fast paced, loud, and the perfect follow-up to the first one.

I for one was sweating like Dom Deluise out there. (Knocked Up reference). Perhaps I’m a little outta shape, perhaps I was a little too into my “stunts” but two skinned knees and a really sore hip later the episode should be available soon.

We get to the “Southland Leisure Center” as it is so called, pay our admission and get into the racquetball courts which are thankfully empty at the time. As we start shooting, we start to hear children playing in a room just down the hall. Of course when you are surrounded by nothing but walls that echo and echo and echo and echo and echo….this poses a bit of a challenge. What’s worse is thee fact that my character John gets, oh, a little angry in the scene and I can only imagine the children and instructor must have wondered what on earth is happening in that court because some guy is getting angry the SAME WAY over and over.

The shoot goes well, no real problems, but good laughs as per usual. So we’re done! We think, “Hey! Let’s go for a swim!” Great idea, I say, and we walk into the locker room, put our fancy trunks on, pre-shower and walk out to the “Wave Pool” where we spent so much of our childhood. Bam! We are met, literally three steps into the area, not the water no no, by a female lifeguard who is clearly on a mission. She says, “You can’t be here” and we say…”Uhhhhh…why not?”

She responds, “It’s 17 and under only”.
“Uhhhhh….Oh.” We reply. “I didn’t see a sign?”
“It’s right out front as you walk in.”

Awkwardly we leave. Feeling as though the world is watching us, embarrassment strewn all over our faces. Of course it is then, much later, when you think…”Oh I should have said that! Why didn’t I say that!?” But you don’t and you feel two feet tall.

Oh and the sign, yeaaaaaahhhh, it was about as big as a small car.

Check bag for the second installment of “The Roommate” soon!
