I used to be fan, not anymore...

But to quote...
George Bernard Shaw once told Sir Cedric Hardwicke, one of his principal male leads:

'You are my fifth favourite actor, the first four being the Marx brothers.'

You should make Billy Bob watch this video about the amazing mayor of Mississauga (80+ and still playing hockey!). I don't see how you can watch that and think of Canada as anything other than totally da bomb. That lady rules!

Thank you for your comments on this. I enjoyed reading all of them. Watching this video depressed me a little, because I was a big fan of Thorton. I hope that we at Fuddytv don't let any of you down like he did. As long as we keep our feet away from our mouths, and our noses clean, then I think we have a chance.

This is such an uncomfortable video to watch. But, I think that the reporter handled himself very well, and managed to keep his composure during such an awkward and rude exchange. Especially when Billy Bob was nattering on about how the producer was "instructed" not to say this and that. Most interviewers don't take kindly to being given instructions, nor do corporations like the CBC have policies that will allow people to add bias to a public interview. I think that does raise interesting questions about ideas around how much journalism is to be controlled, especially when it comes to arts and entertainment.

The reality is, and as the reporter tried to explain in the interview, the only reason that these guys are even getting the kind of national press they are getting is because of Thorton's acting career. And I think if he could graciously accept that and had just said, 'Hey, I want to focus on the music, but I get that the reason we're here is because I'm a movie star that's won an Oscar.' There's not a lot of people who can say that.

But since he decided to be a jerkwad instead, people have plenty to say. None of it pleasant.

It's funny you say, "With a name like Billy Bob" you wouldn't think he'd take himself so seriously. In the U.S., I'd say the most common reaction to the name "Billy Bob" is the assumption that person is going to take themselves EXTREMELY seriously, because they're going to be rabid right-wing hicks with massive chips on their shoulders, and those kinds of people always take themselves ridiculously seriously.

There, have I balanced things out a bit in terms of sweeping & insulting generalizations? :)

Canada is teh awesome and I suspect Billy Bob secretly knows it and resents it. I mean, honestly, did you know Wrigley's only sells sugar-free Juicy Fruit gum in Canada? They won't sell it down here in the U.S. You know why? Because the U.S. doesn't DESERVE sugar-free Juicy Fruit gum, that's why. Only Canada does.

I rest my case.

p.s. Nice work Toronto!
